CO2HERO UI/UX
One-stop platform to drive carbon-friendly action.
Case study
Creating a mobile application design with meaningful user experience for inspiring people to take climate-friendly actions.
My role
As a Product Designer, I was responsible for identifying and researching the latest trends in product design to ensure the creation of innovative and user-centric products. My work emphasized crafting intuitive and functional designs that prioritize user needs and market relevance. This involved conducting comprehensive competitor analysis, actively participating in the ideation and concept development phases, and collaborating closely with team members during user testing. By employing a range of design methodologies and leveraging advanced technologies, I worked in tandem with Concept Designers and Developers to transform creative concepts into tangible, market-ready products
UX approach
In the initial phase of product concept development, our approach revolves around the design thinking model for product design. This model encompasses five crucial phases in the UX process: Product definition, Research, Analysis, Design, Validation, and Implementation, which form the foundation of our workflow.
The initial phase of product development lays the groundwork for the ultimate outcome. Prior to crafting the product, gaining a deep understanding of its purpose is essential for any designer. In this crucial stage, collaboration with the team is key. Stakeholder interviews are conducted to get insights into the business objectives, vision, and strategy. Here, the focus is on defining the problem at hand and formulating a strategic solution.
Product definition
Product and market research
Our primary focus was on executing comprehensive user and market research in collaboration with User Tribes. Through this partnership, we aimed to gain insights into the needs, desires, and expectations of potential customers for the CO2hero's app. We strived to ascertain the level of comprehension regarding the presented concept, gauge the appeal of individual elements, identify the underlying problems being addressed, and determine the value proposition that we could offer to our target audience.
Concept testing and results
Our team with collaboration with User tribe conducted focus groups across Sweden, the Netherlands, and the UK. Participants were asked several detailed questions describing the value proposition, and their overall score out of 5 reflected their belief in the concept. The results unequivocally indicated a clear need for the CO2HERO platform
Analysis phase
User analysis
In the user analysis phase, our goal was to extract insights from the data gathered in the product research phase. To achieve this, we initiated the development of user personas to represent different user types and their environments. These personas will serve as a consistent reference point throughout the project, aiding in the understanding of users' objectives within specific scenarios.
After analyzing the results of our research efforts, we've developed a richer understanding of the demographics, preferences, and behaviors of our potential target audience. This insight allows us to tailor our strategies and offerings more effectively to meet their needs and preferences.
Building on our product and market research, we identified our competitors. Consequently, during the Analysis phase, we conducted in-depth examinations of each competitor and their respective product offerings.
Design phase
It was a comprehensive and iterative process, encompassing activities such as designing scenarios, brainstorming ideas, developing user flows, utilizing mind maps, constructing wireframes and prototypes, as well as establishing design specifications and systems. Below, I showcased a portion of this process.
Validation and Customers feedback
User Quotes and Testimonials:
Usability testing took place with both - internal stakeholders and with external participants. The users' interactions were captured via video and audio recordings. Data was collected remotely using a secure online platform. The methodology was based on a 1:1 think-out-loud format, which encouraged participants to answer open-ended questions and explain their thought processes.
After the participants had completed the user tests, we analyzed the findings and identified any usability issues for improvement in the app's functionality at that current stage. These insights were used to enhance the user experience and improve the mobile application's overall usability
The CO2HERO app's refined interface empowers users to actively reduce their daily CO2 emissions.
This comprehensive platform provides users with vital information, essential resources, and strategic partnerships, fostering a sense of environmental responsibility and encouraging meaningful action. Offering a range of services tailored for both consumer (B2C) and business (B2B) segments, the app's intuitive design features a central navigation menu across five main pages.
Final product design
Each of these main screens serves a singular purpose: to drive user engagement in the fight against climate change by empowering individuals to effect positive change through small, actionable steps in their daily lives.
